Value Punctuation and Grammar

We use the approach of 'Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar' to support our children in their understanding of this area of English. This is a structured approach to teaching grammar and punctuation by linking rules to clear place value concepts. Instead of presenting punctuation as isolated marks, it models how each punctuation mark has a function and a ‘position’ in a sentence, much like digits in a number. This helps pupils see how moving, removing or adding punctuation changes meaning, just as shifting numbers changes value. The approach supports consistency, builds confidence and gives children a concrete way to understand sentence structure and accuracy.
