“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
At Elmore Green we use the Read Write Inc (RWI) programme to support the teaching of phonics and early reading.
Why do we use RWI?
The RWI programme has been proven to be a very successful method of teaching every child to read using phonics.
All children in Reception and Year One follow the programme. They are assessed, are put into groups and given the appropriate RW1 reading materials. Children are taken off the programme when they have completed Grey books. Some children continue RWI in Year Two.
Within daily phonics and reading sessions your child will;
learn 44 sounds and the corresponding letters/ letter groups using simple picture prompts,
read lively stories featuring words they have learnt to sound out,
show that they understand the stories by answering 'Find it' and 'Prove it' discussion questions,
Your child will be assessed and grouped so they work with children at the same level. This allows them to take a full part in all lessons. They work in pairs so that they:
answer every question
practise every activity with their partner
take turns in talking to each other
