We aim to provide our children with high-quality science education which provides the foundations for understanding the world. We work to develop children’s scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific teaching of biology, chemistry and physics.
We support the children in developing their understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of enquiries that helps them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. We strive to ensure that children are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science today, and for the future.
As a school we are currently following the Rising Stars ‘Hamilton on Science’ scheme of work. Within this scheme we are working hard to ensure that children are provided with ample opportunities to use their investigative skills and scientific knowledge to carry out simple, practical fair tests and to present their findings in ways that they see appropriate. Where possible, we link the units in the switched-on to science scheme to our creative curriculum in order that our children experience ‘joined-up’ ideas and thoughts.
The following topics are covered in each year group. As you are aware some children are in a mixed-age class, where this is the case, they will follow a 2-year cycle. These cycles are indicated as A or B.
